Professional Applications of Coaching Skills

Emerging and Established Leaders

Coaching skills are an in-demand skill set for today’s leaders—and increasingly, the role of a leader is becoming that of a coach.

In fact, according to the Institute of Coaching at McClean, more than 70% of individuals who receive coaching benefited from improved work performance and more effective communication skills.

HR Professionals

Human Resources professionals are often the catalysts for improving company culture and creating an employee experience that, ideally, improves retention.

Studies show that bringing a coaching culture into an organization has lasting benefits—including improved staff retention, performance, productivity, and profitability. In fact, research from the Human Capital Institute (HCI) and the International Coaching Federation (ICF) in 2019 shows 62% of organizations with a strong coaching culture improved retention of top performers.

Project Managers

A truly successful project manager must have a breadth of skills including the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with stakeholders, problem-solve, and develop strong relationships across functional teams. This is where coaching comes in.

According to research conducted by the University of Amsterdam, coaching has significant positive effects on performance and skills (60%), well-being (46%), coping (43%), work attitudes (54%), and goal-attainment (74%).

As a trained and certified coach, you’ll gain the skills to bring out the best in the people you work with, facilitate more effective conversations that keep projects moving, and create buy-in among stakeholders in service of meeting deadlines and achieving goals.

Business Owners

As an iPEC graduate, you’ll have access to everything you need to grow a successful coaching business—including comprehensive business development training, done-for-you toolkits to sell your coaching packages, programs to use with clients, a rich network of support from fellow iPEC alumni and faculty, and extensive training in administering the Energy Leadership Index® (ELI) assessment—which is a proprietary, research-backed tool to help set your business apart.

  • 67 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP recertification

About the International Coaching Federation and Its Requirements

Founded in 1995, the International Coaching Federation (ICF) is the coaching industry’s governing body with many non-profit chapters located around the world. As the global authority on professional coaching, the ICF plays a crucial role in establishing and maintaining high standards within the coaching industry.

While the ICF doesn't offer its own training programs, they do set the gold standard for other coach training programs and lend its seal of approval in the form of accreditation—thereby contributing to the development of competent and skilled coaches worldwide.

The iPEC Coach Training Program was one of the first to be accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF), and for twenty-five years we've been a leader in the coaching industry.
